SkoomumLogger was losing track of pounce transmit frequency when toggling transmit focus in 1T2R operating mode.
3.7 2022-08-07
New
- Added the Messages > Abort command to commands supported by the XK-24 keypad. Keypad commands work when SkookumLogger isn't the active app.
Changed
- Added BY to the list of entity codes for which call areas are multipliers for EU entrants in the WAEDC contest.
- Added 13cm, 9cm and 6cm to Band text commands supported by the Phantom radio. Thanks K2QO.
- Modified the age entry to support cut number detection for the All Asian contest. With this change, SkookumLogger cannot correctly open previous All Asian logs.
- Moved the Log Table Columns sub-menu from the View menu into the Log menu. Moved the Activity Table Columns sub-menu from the View menu into the Activity menu. Moved the Maps menu to a sub-menu in the Windows menu. Moved the Morse menu to a sub-menu in the Messages menu. This doesn't affect any keyboard shortcuts. Removed the View, Maps, and Morse menus from the main menubar. I generally don't like nested menus, but the prior arrangement was problematic on laptops with notches in the middle of the menubar.
- When Keyboard Morse mode is enabled in 1T*R, the most recent-recently focused QSO entry field gains keyboard focus so that typing will immediately send CW.
Fixed
- The CW messages queue was stalling when attempting to send an empty message. Thanks W6FB.
- Some versions of the XK-24 were not being discovered. Thanks AI6W.
- SkookumLogger crashed if the "Table update interval" value in Activities preferences was set to zero. The lower limit is now 0.5 seconds. Thanks AI6W.
3.6 2022-07-10
New
- Support for “weekly” contests, allowing creation of new logs with correct start dates when creating the log after the start of the event. Thanks W2RU, AI6W.
- Items on the radio menus for K4 TCP and FTdx101MP for toggling main and sub receiver antennas.
- Items on the Radio 1 menu for K4 TCP for stepping M.RF and S.RF in 3 dB increments, beginning with the values read from the radio when enabling the connection and when changing bands.
- Sub-receiver tracking in 1T2R for FTdx radios. Thanks NE6NE.
- Logging a call ending in “/R” marks that call as a Rover.
- World Radiosport Team Championship 2022 contest, currently using the same rules as WRTC 2018.
- RSGB 6m CW Contest.
Changed
- Enabling a connection to a WinKeyer now displays the type of keyer, and its version in major.minor format.
- When the “Do not use the SCP database” option is on, also disable use of the Exchange Database. The option is automatically enabled for WRTC and CWT. Thanks AI6W.
- Revised SkookumNet to adopt changes in Apple networking security.
- Updated rules for Salmon Run. Thanks W6OAT.
- Removed use of Caps Lock to toggle Keyboard Mode, introduced in version 3.5.
- Removed the “all your QSOs are outside the contest period” feature, introduced in 3.5.
- Removed Panadapter overlays for K3+P3.
Fixed
- Editing sent exchange fields in the Sent Exchange Editor was badly misbehaving, with some entries overwriting other fields, tabbing between fields skipping over editable fields, and garbled Morse Sent Exchange Templates. Additionally, the Sent Exchange Editor was not being properly reinitialized when changing logs. Thanks KD5YPH.
- File > Export to Numbers… was failing with an error message about ASCII encoding. Thanks W6FB.
- When the “Do not use the SCP database” option is on, also disable use of the Exchange Database. The option is automatically enabled for WRTC and CWT. Thanks AI6W.
- When starting SkookumLogger and a previously enabled WinKeyer was reported as not available (because you unplugged it), SkookumLogger was failing to reset the enabled state to off. Thanks AI6W.
- The file embedded in 3.5 for adjudicating a CWT log was malformed. Thanks AI6W.
- File > Statistics Report was crashing SkookumLogger when applied to a log with zone multipliers. Thanks JH5GHM.
- The Section Checkoff window content wasn’t being reset by Log > Reset Log. Thanks W22RU.
3.5 2022-06-03
New
- When you type a character in a QSO Entry field, SkookumLogger sets the state of Keyboard Morse Mode to match the state of caps lock.
- Added three more bands to the six bands above 6m: 13cm, 9cm and 6cm. [The K3 and K4 can support all 9 bands above 6m via their transverter features, tracking and setting bands and frequencies. I’ve tested only K4. Please be alert for changed behavior in your normal operating scenarios. Known issue: there are no activity tables for the added bands.] Thanks VE3DS.
- SkookumLogger now detects a band name entered in a Call field and changes to the band when you type return. Band names are numbers followed by M or CM, like 2M and 13CM.
- When all of the first 10 QSOs in a log are outside the contest period, SkookumLogger now posts an alert warning you to check the start date in Time Tracker.
- Added RSGB Platinum Jubilee HF CW, HF SSB, VHF.
Changes
- Changed Indiana QSO Party multipliers to not per-band. Thanks N9SE.
- Removed the no more than one limit on the number of his call tokens in CW messages. The token is processed with type ahead only when it is the first character in the message. Thanks W2RU.
- Updated start time and bonus points for KY QSO Party.
- Limit the maximum value of Keying Compensation to 40ms — the key-down duration of a dit at 30 WPM. Larger compensation fills the space following the dit, which is probably not useful.
- Updated hints pages for antennas and panadapters.
- Added documentation for Band text command to Help.
- Added 60m to list of K4 TCP supported bands, which now supports all 20 bands supported by SkookumLogger.
Bugs
- A change made to fuzzy match code in the 3.2.2 release last fall seems to have degraded performance in SSB mode. This beta restores the relevant code from 3.2.1. [I couldn’t understand either version well enough to understand how it works. Again, be alert.]
- SkookumLogger was claiming QSOs had bad received location fields in NEQP Inside. They were not incorrect, the code was.
- SkookumLogger was failing to initialize the sent exchange location field for NEQP Inside logs to the value from the County field in New Log Sent Exchange preferences.
- Some Sent Entry Editor entry fields were missing formatters that restrict what can be typed into the field. For example, it was possible to enter CAR NH; the correct formatter ignores spaces. Thanks W1VKE.
- RSGB Club Championship Data QSOs weren’t per-digital-mode. Thanks GØDVJ.
- Setting a spot filter containing the buddies token was breaking the filter when the buddies list was empty. Now, when the buddies list is empty, SkookumLogger inserts your contest call. Also improved the UI for adding buddies. Thanks AI6W.
- Enabling the RX Antenna Overlay in Maps windows wasn’t displaying the receive antenna name in the windows. Thanks GØDVJ.
- Sometimes grabbing a spot with the Panadapter cursor changed the radio but failed to fill the Pounce QSO Entry fields. Thanks AI6W.
- When 24-hour time was off and locale was eu_GB, the format of times in Cabrillo files was, err, unexpected. Thanks 2MØGUI and GØDVJ.
3.4 2022-04-24
New
- Added font and color for identifying a call that “Might be multiplier”. This case arises when call-band-mode isn’t enough information to identify dupes, and when the call is a rover. See the Fonts and Colors topic in the Log Window section of Help. You will need to revisit your font and color choices in Logging preferences.
- Added support for the Medium Speed Test, in the nontest category. This nascent event is described at mst-contest. Thanks W1VKE.
- Disabled Practice mode for contests that aren’t supported for practicing. The supported contests are listed in The Practice Mode topic of the Other Windows section of Help.
Changed
- Toggling Keyboard Mode now toggles the red backlight for the corresponding X-Key keypad key.
- The web site has moved to a far more reliable host, with the domain k1gq.net replacing k1gq.com. Thanks KM3T.
- The "Do not use the SCP database" Logging option had no effect. Now it prevents partials matching against the SCP database without blocking matching against the current log and your Exchange database. The option defaults to off and is turned on for CWops Mini-CWT and 2014/2018 WRTC.
Fixed
- Activity table column ordering and sizes were not being remembered.
- Editing some log table fields when Keyboard Morse mode was on was transmitting CW instead of changing field content. Thanks W6FB.
- Magic Message wasn’t sending anything in contests where the sent exchange had a location field. Thanks KK6MC.
- CQMM was not restricted to CW only.
- The Michigan QSO Party start time was incorrect.
- Exchange guessing wasn’t enabled for Michigan, Ontario and Quebec QSO parties for Outside entrants.
- Correct Mode was broken for some of the "acknowledge and log" CW messages.
3.3 2022-04-03
New
- Show the current K4 reference level in dBm in the Panadapter window.
- Automatically send a copy of the Cabrillo log to the Super Check Partial server when submitting a Cabrillo log to a contest sponsor. Report in the Status Messages window when the send succeeds. Optionally disable automatic sending with a checkbox in the Cabrillo pane of New Log preferences.
- For Countries, Super Check Partial and CWops Roster databases, use the newer of the internal or the downloaded database files. The internal databases are updated when preparing a release for the App Store.
- VE2ZEB provided code for the Quebec QSO Party, Canadian Prairies QSO Party, and British Columbia QSO Party.

- The Panadapter window now uses any external device reporting as "UVC Camera" for video capture.
- The KX3 poll rate has been increased by a factor of five.
- K4 TCP uses Digital Audio commands introduced in firmware R29 in place of previous work-arounds for playing and recording voice messages.
Fixed
- The county components of the sent exchanges for inside entrants in QSO parties for Idaho, North Carolina, Washington (Salmon Run) and Wisconsin were not properly initialized. Thanks K7LXA.
- Pounce frequency tracking in 1T*R was broken when the "Pounce frequency change creates activity from QSO entry and clears entry" option was enabled. Thanks VE3MM.
- QSO points for FM contacts in the Ontario QSO Party were incorrect. Thanks VE2ZEB.
- The new cutify info field feature was interfering with editing info for logged QSOs. Thanks KA1IS.
- The VA QSO Party was mishandling bookkeeping for the mandatory off period. Thanks W2RU.
Hints
- Use the {0 token when you are roving in a QSO party. Change your county in the Sent Exchange Editor as needed. The current county is shown in the prompt line, saved when you log a QSO, and sent in place of the {0 token in your CW messages.
- To record a DVR message (K4 TCP), begin with the keyboard shortcut for Messages > Record Voice Message > Message n, and finish with the keyboard shortcut for Messages > Save Recording. The radio will be switched to transmit mode while recording. Recording is directed into a 90 second buffer and does not change the existing DVR message if you choose Cancel Recording instead of Save Recording.

Bugs
- The CQ count in the Score window was truncated for counts larger than 9,999. Thanks JH5GHM.
- The Explain Suspect QSOs result was unhelpful for the case where the country or zone for a call (e.g. 4U9A) couldn't be determined from the Countries file. Thanks W2RU.
- A Countries file parsing mistake was mis-identifying the country for calls that partially matched exact-match calls in the file. For example KA1I is Guam, SkookumLogger was falsely identifying KA1IS as Guam. Thanks GØTPH.
- Sending CW messages wasn't being disabled when no morse keyer was available.
- The amplifier Enable option wasn't being turned off when an enabled amplifier timed out. Thanks W2RU.
- Polling wasn't working for the TenTec Omni 7 radio. Thanks AF8A.

3.2.3 2021-10-13
New features
- When the My Call preference value is "K1CX" at startup, SkookumLogger Help opens showing the Getting Started topic. This is intended to provide "onboarding" assistance to new users.
- In the 2T2R operating mode, when a multiplier for the QSO on one radio is needed on the band/mode of the other radio. the QSO status line displays "✦ Other radio needs multiplier ✦".
- The new "Acknowledge + QSY + Log" message sends the Acknowledge message followed by a QSY request message and logs the QSO. The QSY message is defined in a hidden preference as "R QSY ! ?", where the ! token is replaced a transmit frequency in kHz. For 2T2R, the transmit frequency for the other radio is used. For 1T1R and 1T2R when SkookumNet is not active, the transmit frequency for the QSO entry that doesn't have transmit focus is used. When SkookumNet is active, the run transmit frequency for the selected row in the Peers table is used.
Changes
- Revised the approach for detecting loss of communication with radios to prevent false alerts when communication is stalled due to holding a blocking window open too long.
- Enabling Practice mode in the Practice window now also transfers keyboard focus to the Log window.
- Setting the Disable After value in the Practice window to zero now disables the feature.
- Added DC to the list of multipliers for NASprint. Thanks NK4O.
- When guessing the location for a call, use "My Location" when call matches the sent exchange call to improve the bearing value in activity tables. Thanks W2RU.
- Many additions to Practice mode to improve the behavior and audio characteristics of callers. Most of these are controlled by hidden preferences. See the “Practice Mode Hidden Preferences” item in the web site Hints page. Thanks JH5GHM.
- Radio Type popup menus now have items grouped by radio manufacturer.
Bugs
- The TenTec Eagle radio interface was dysfunctional. Thanks KK4E.
- A startup crash was caused by attempting to reopen an amplifier with an unknown type name.
- When radio band changes, the Activity window for the old band instead of the new band was becoming the frontmost activity window. Thanks NK4O.
- Texas QSO Party In Texas was crashing when creating a new log. Thanks KG5OWB.
3.2.2 2021-09-05
3.2.0 had a plethora of issues created when I redesigned the architecture for external devices to handle both serial and TCP devices. 3.2.1 was an emergency patch to deal with a crash potentially affecting many serial radios. In 3.2.2, I’ve addressing additional problems reported by users and cleaned up other serial radio-related issues.
New features
- Added visibility menus for each activity table to the View menu, and re-enabled the visibility popup menus on the tables' header rows. GØDVJ provided a good example why you might not want all tables to show the same columns: he sorts on the rotator column when S&P on a band where he has rotatable antennas, and hides the bearing column to save screen space on bands where he doesn't have a rotator.
Changes
- The new K3 + P3 radio type implies that there is a P3 panadapter connected to the K3 and turned on. The K3 radio type now implies that there is not a P3.
- Added support for the 60m band, recognized for K3 and Phantom radios. This prevents a crash. Thanks W2RU.
- Revised scoring for the UKEICC 80m contest to include points for bonus calls. Thanks GØDVJ.
Bugs
- Corrupted packets received from Elecraft radios were causing a crash. Thanks KB3ZGL.
- The Practice mode Spread settings for caller speeds and amplitudes were creating much too small variations.
- Adding multiplier information to the Notes field wasn’t working for QSOs with county-line straddlers. Thanks NK4O.
- Ohio QSO Party Outside wasn’t identifying calls in the eighth call area as “possibly needed”. Thanks NK4O.
- The set of mode-dependent flags in the QSO column of the Pass Information window wasn’t depending on the log’s Cabrillo Mode setting.
- Port names defined in the Port Device Name Editor were sometimes being reset when the serial port disappeared or wasn’t present at startup.
3.2.1 2021-08-20

- Removed the hyphen in the Yaesu FTdx-101MP radio type name.
- Removed the dysfunctional future events popup menu at the top of the Time Tracker window.
- Some contests do not have predictable start dates. In those cases, SkookumLogger now sets the start date to the current date when you create the log. As always, use Time Tracker and the WA7BNM contest calendar to confirm that the start date is set correctly.
Bug fixes
- Practice mode for Worked All Europe CW Outside Europe was not limiting callers to EU stations. Thanks JH5GHM.
- The Score window wasn’t being reconfigured when changing logs. Thanks GØDVJ.
- The Region checksheet had duplicated rows. Thanks NK4O.
- Changing logs while the Pass Information window was open caused a crash. Thanks GØDVJ.
- The European HF Championship rule set was not limiting QSOs to EU entrants.
- The score computation for WAE wasn’t applying the per-band multiplier weight factors. Thanks W6SX.
3.1.8 2021-07-07
New features
- The 07Z CWOps MiniCWT is supported.
- The ARUKR society code is recognized for the IARU HF Championship.

- The Database Versions Tools has been replaced with status messages at startup and includes the IARU HQ database version.
- The RSGB Clubs database has been updated.
- SkookumLogger has 55 non-blocking windows. All of them now have consistent appearance. All except Checksheets and Editors remember their visibility states across SkookumLogger restarts. - Checksheets now automatically hide when opening a different log.
- Multiplier information is not added to the Notes field when logging in Practice mode.
- Window > QTC Series now has a shortcut that opens the window without any side effects.
- Window > SkookumNet now opens the window without any side effects. The SkookumNet window now has a Connect button for enabling the network connection.
- Map > Change Great Circle Map… and Map > Change Grid Map… are now disabled when the corresponding Map window hasn’t been opened.

- The label for Needed QSOs in Logging preferences wasn’t tracking the selected color.
- The selections for the popup menus in Activity windows were not being remembered across SkookumLogger restarts.
- Memory management issues in Practice mode code might have been causing sporadic crashes while using that mode. Thanks JH5GHM and W7AY.
3.1.7 2021-06-14
New features
- Added a new CW message, Repeat Exchange, similar to Repeat Serial but sends the content of the & token without RST. Thanks K1XX.
- The info field in the Sent Exchange Editor for QSO parties now lists counties using Edit ► Complete. Thanks K1XX.
- Append multiplier information to the Notes field when a QSO that is a new multiplier is logged.
- Added simple support for Elecraft K4 via serial I/O.
- Added support for the 7QP QSO Party for Outside entrants.
- Added support for the Kentucky QSO Party for Outside entrants provided by N9SE.
- Added handling of Delaware QSO Party counties in the NEQP Inside contest so that log-what-you-hear doesn’t confuse SkookumLogger.
- Added handling of elided state in state-county exchanges sent by county-line straddlers so that log-what-you-hear works. SkookumLogger prepends the missing state code when the QSO is generated.
Changes
- Deleted support for the Manchester Mineira (CQMM) contest because SkookumLogger cannot support both per-band DXCC and not per-band prefix multipliers at the same time.
- Updated NEQP URLs.
- Updated default Countries, SCP and CWOps Roster databases.
- Modified poll response handling for Elecraft radios to group all responses relating to receive and transmit frequencies before processing possible changes. This is a blind attempt to address a scenario that I cannot reproduce where SkookumLogger misses a band change and so logs QSOs on the wrong band.
- The behavior of sending CW by computer using a WinKeyer, a YCCC SO2R Box keyer, or a YCCC SO2R Mini keyer is now somewhat more consistent across each type of keyer. Tapping the paddle while a message is playing now has the same behavior as tapping the escape key. Tapping a keyboard shortcut to send a message while sending with the paddle adds the message to the message queue, which begins playing after you stop sending with the paddle. For 2T2R, SkookumLogger now accounts for PTT tail delay before changing transmit focus when a message ends.
Bug fixes
- Unstack QSO wasn't sending RST for the second call. Thanks NK4O.
- The start time for INQP was 16Z instead of 15Z. Thanks N9SE.
- The SO2R Blend slider was always disabled. Thanks JH5GHM.
- SkookumLogger wasn’t detecting dupes for rovers in the NEQP Inside contest.
- SkookumLogger was trying to open the YCCC Mini port when it was already open, disrupting tracking of the enabled state.
3.1.6 2021-04-18
New features
- A default CWOps roster is now included with SkookumLogger, used for self-adjudication (see Help). Thanks W2RU.
Changes
- Deleted the ARRL Maxim Birthday Contest.
- Updated IRTS Counties calendar, and scoring for Inside entrants. Thanks GØDVJ.
- Updated Polish DX Contest (SPDX) information, submission rules now require using web site; emails are rejected.
- Updated Florida QSO Party log submission and rules URLS.
Bug fixes
- For NEQP entrants inside New England, working a 7QP or INQP rover is a dupe when they change counties. In 7QP, the same rover in difference states is a dupe but may be a state multiplier. Thanks K1KI.
- The & (sent exchange) CW message token now excludes the signal report, as documented. For QSO parties where the sent exchange is the county, the & token can be used to send the county as part of any message. Thanks K1XX and WA1Z.
- OK-OM DX Contest SSB was requiring CW mode for QSOs. Thanks NK4O.
- Florida QSO Party Inside Florida was mishandling QSOs with other Florida stations.
- Ontario QSO Party start time was 12Z instead of 18Z.

Updated rules for Hungarian DX Contest. The multipliers now include DXCC and WAE countries.
Support for Idaho QSO Party, both Inside and Outside.
Support for North Carolina QSO Party, both Inside and Outside. Handles bonus points. Rules specifically exclude FT4 and FT8 as not appropriate for contesting; excellent! Thanks N4CW for creating a machine-readable list of county names and codes.
Support for South Carolina QSO Party, Outside. Handles bonus points. Does not handle combining SSB and FM into one “phone" mode. Does handle combining FSK, PSK and Data into one “digital” mode, but Cabrillo mode is DG not RY.
Separate CWOps Mini-CWT modules for 13Z, 19Z and 03Z. This supports creating a new log for these non-contests any time before the next event without confusing the Time Tracker Start Date.
